Minutes of Past Meetings
October Meeting
Topic: Equipment Connections for Children
Speaker: Claire Wong, PT
On Monday, October 24, Claire Wong, PT, joined us for our Regeneration/Generation meeting. She spoke about the program she started in 2009 after she noticed the need for children to get the "adaptive equipment they need to learn, grow, and move." The philosophy of her program is "when families support families through the exchange and reuse of adaptive equipment, the children with disabilities live in a better community." This is an online program that is based out of Montgomery County, Maryland; however, Claire says they will serve any family, anywhere, who is willing and able to ship their equipment or travel. The online itinerary changes weekly with pictures, measurements, and locations of new equipment. For families who are looking for specific items there are forms to fill out, and if an item is not available, you will be put on a waiting list; once the equipment becomes available the family is then contacted. Equipment includes adaptive bikes, adapted strollers, adapted bath equipment, adapted high chairs, walking aids, adapted indoor seating systems, and standing frames.
For more information, check out the company's website: www.equipmentconnectionsforchildren.org.
